Twelfth Civil Lawsuit Filed in Woodmore Bus Crash

A bus full of children crashed on Wednesday, November 21, 2016, injuring several of the 37 kids and killing six.  The driver, Johnthony Walker, was thought to be speeding roughly 20 mph over the posted speed limit when he suddenly crashed.  On March 2, 2017, a twelfth civil lawsuit was been filed in the Circuit Court connected to the case.   Numerous memorials have been held to honor and remember the young victims.

The most recent lawsuit was filed last Tuesday on behalf of Diamond Brown, the mother of 6-year-old D’Myunn Lamar Brown who died that day.  Brown’s lawsuit states, “Plaintiff lost her child as a result of this crash.  This has cause[d], and will continue to cause severe emotional and psychological pain” and has been filed against the Durham School Services and Johnthony Walker.  This is the second lawsuit filed for her son, the first was filed last month on behalf of the father, Antoine Armour.

Walker is currently in custody and is facing vehicular homicide, reckless driving, and reckless endangerment charges.   Hopefully steps will be taken to make mass transportation services, especially those involving children, safer in the future.
