Snowplow Hits and Kills Bellingham Man On Side of Road After Sundown

On Tuesday, January 4, 2022, Whatcom County officials reported that a snowplow hit and killed a man, who was walking on the side of the road around 6:00 p.m. in Bellingham, WA. The man was said to have his back turned to traffic, and while the snowplow driver stopped the vehicle and attempted to save the 47-year-old man’s life, he still died at the scene.

We are deeply saddened to hear of this tragic incident in Bellingham. Our thoughts go out to the family of the deceased.

For Pedestrians consider the following:

  • When walking in the dark consider wearing bright colors, reflective markings on clothes, or carrying a flashlight or other illumination.
  • Always walk towards traffic and attempt to make eye contact with passing drivers.
  • Walk on sidewalks and roads paved specifically for pedestrian activity as much as possible.
