Matthew F. Duggan

Associate Attorney

Matt works out of our Spokane and Tri-Cities offices

Matthew Duggan is an Associate Attorney working out of the GLP Spokane and Tri-Cities offices. Originally from Spokane, Matt earned his undergraduate degree in Accounting from Gonzaga University and his Juris Doctorate from Gonzaga School of Law. Prior to joining GLP in 2019, Matt spent over 25 years employed in criminal law, working as a Spokane County Prosecutor and as an Assistant United States Attorney in Spokane.

Matt was interested in numbers, math, and logic from a young age, and legal logic was especially appealing to him. Directly after finishing his undergraduate degree, Matt decided to attend law school instead of taking the CPA exam. After graduation, Matt began practicing law in Stevens County, where he was able to try his hand at both criminal defense and prosecution work. He later worked as a prosecutor in Okanogan County and landed back in Spokane for good in 1994. During his time in criminal law, Matt acquired 27 years of criminal litigation with over 100 jury trials resulting in convictions for burglary, theft, aggravated assault, firearm crimes, sex offenses and homicide. With that, sentences of 75 years, 138 years and life in prison.

In 2019, Matt decided to branch out from public practice to private practice. Specifically, he wanted to work in a field where hard work was recognized and where he could still advocate for people in times of need. Personal injury law turned out to be the perfect fit. Matt’s legal background as a prosecutor prepared him for the grueling challenges of litigation and the head-to-head negotiations with insurance companies. Best of all, Matt can still help the “underdogs” of the legal system- those who are navigating a challenging, painful time in their lives.

One such gratifying case involved an elderly pedestrian who was hit by a car. After a lengthy search for insurance coverage, Matt was able to procure a great settlement for his client, who was able to put the money towards his personal financial goals. In another recent case, Matt was also able to get all of the available insurance limits in a tragic wrongful death case involving a twenty-year-old vehicle passenger. Matt looks forward to continuing his legal career in personal injury law. Matt is admitted to practice in all courts in Washington, including the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Washington and the United States Court of Appeals Ninth Circuit. Matt is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, Spokane County Bar Association and the Washington State Association for Justice (Eagle member). When Matt isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with his sons and skiing, jet skiing, and riding motorcycles.
