John is an Associate Attorney in the South Sound offices of GLP Attorneys. Prior to joining the firm, he practiced personal injury law — for 16 years — with the firm of Howell & Thornhill, P.A. in Winter Haven, Florida.
Mr. Acken graduated from the University of Florida and earned his Juris Doctorate from Drake University Law School in 1997. While in law school, he was a member of Law Review and on the National Mock Trial Team. He began his legal career as an Assistant Public Defender for the 10th Judicial Circuit of Florida where he served as a Felony Trial Division Chief Attorney. He is admitted to practice law in the states of Washington, Florida, Maine and New Hampshire. He is Board Certified by the Florida Bar as an Expert in Civil Trial Law.
When not working, John enjoys spending time outdoors, running, hiking, triathlons, and traveling with his wife and children. He is an active member of U.S. Masters Swimming. He has been an active member of Rotary International for over 14 years and is a current member of the Gig Harbor Midday Rotary Club.
