Pedestrian Killed by a Motor VehicleGraham Lundberg & Peschel represented the parents of a 22 year old young man who was struck by a car and killed while crossing a roadway on foot. The car was a marked police cruiser driven by a Washington State Patrol Trooper. A significant issue in the case was that the Washington State Patrol had no mechanism for conducting an independent investigation of an accident involving one its own Troopers. The issue prompted the parents to lobby the Washington State Legislature for a change in procedure by the Washington State Patrol. Thanks to the parents work, the law now provides that when a Washington State Patrol Trooper is involved in a serious collision, an independent investigation will be conducted. GLP successfully settled the wrongful death case against the State of Washington just a few months before trial.
