$884,000 Auto Collision Verdict after State Farm offered $0 – King County

Attorneys Jim Gooding and Amy Miller received a verdict for a client against her own insurance company, State Farm, following a rear-end collision in Seattle that happened in 2010. GLP attorneys argued to the jury that the injuries Plaintiff suffered in the crash caused the onset of an extremely rare auto-immune disease called Dermatomyositis (DM). DM causes muscle fatigue, skin rashes and the need for medication the rest of Plaintiff’s life. The disease came on approximately one month following the collision, with no previous symptoms. Through the support of one of the best rheumatologists in the country, GLP attorneys argued that the  disease was indeed caused by the trauma Plaintiff sustained in the crash.

The Defense argued that the DM was not caused by the crash and asked the jury for an award of less than $10,000.00.

The jury returned a verdict awarding everything that the GLP attorneys asked for, and more: past and future medical bills, and past and future pain and suffering for a total verdict of $884,000. A “bad faith” case is now pending against State Farm for its refusal to make a reasonable offer at any point during the litigation.
